Wine and Angst

This is probably my first real post in weeks. But I am here at work (actually arrived on time) and it is still semi-dark in the office, so I thought I would take advantage of these rare early moments of privacy.

I had a very nice long weekend. It actually felt like a long weekend, which was a bonus because they usually go by so fast. Friday night was a few pints and a little bit of drama at the pool hall, followed by a little bit of outside time with the boys and some much needed criss-cut fries. I think Saturday was a lazy day, although I did pop out for an hour to check out a possible apartment (no good). Then we did the family thing for the uncle's 50th birthday party. A glass of wine, shmoozing with the old folks, cooing over the baby - it was fun. On Sunday morning I woke up feeling fired up that there were still two days left in the weekend. We went to see Sideways that afternoon. As the credits started rolling, I felt a little unsure as to whether I liked it, but I think it was only because I was so annoyed at the characters' actions. But I think the fact that the movie got me riled up means the actors did a good job. The story was intersting, the California scenery was great, and the acting was excellent. And then of course Sunday night was the Golden Globes. I know I can take the awards shows way too seriously, so it was humbling (for lack of a better word) to watch it last night with two guys who commentated through the whole thing. Most of it was pretty ridiculous. Monday started out good, but just as we were settling in to watch The Price Is Right, I discovered a few ants in the bedroom. Well that led to several loads of laundry and a spray down. We didn't see any more, but of course I was on edge for the rest of the day. We did watch Garden State in the middle of that, which took my mind off things. I liked it a lot. That Zach Braff sure can make a movie. And then we spent the afternoon getting a behind the scenes tour of the local environmental educational museum zoo place. I had never been there before, so I am glad we spent the holiday doing something new. And despite the ants, and the fact that the plumber was over for 2 hours later that evening making a lot of noise while both toilets were lying on the floor, the evening ended on a good note, which is always a double secret special bonus.
