"Do Work"

Party Like It's 1998
On Saturday we went to Andrew's 10-year college reunion. I knew about three people who were going to be there, and I have been on the wagon for the last three weeks and had set a personal goal for myself to stay topside, so this was a challenge going in. To my pleasant surprise, I met and chatted with more people than I can remember names of, and I danced just as much as I would have if I'd been drunk. We hadn't planned to spend the night, but the whole gang was staying over in the dorms, so we stayed too. It turned out to be a good time. The next morning the wreckage included smashed cookies, empty kegs, half slurped jello shots, and an unidentified girl sleeping on the couch on the balcony. Also worth remembering:
we could have gotten in for free
the longest bar line in the history of free booze
not an extra fork to be found
Diamond Dave ("I thought you said this guy was good") - if you get him a beer he'll play your song (which for us was "Shout")
very slippery dance floor, especially for the one too-drunk barefoot woman (there's always one)
um, no, this room is occupied
"Someone needs to put Damian to bed"
was there really someone sleeping in the third bedroom?
cereal, orange juice, and chocolate milk = good

What else....
On Friday night we finally saw Wall-E. It's different. But I think we have said that about all the Pixar movies. It is also a tad derivative, being a mishmash of Short Circuit, Star Wars, and 2001: A Space Odyssey, with a splash of Fred Willard("wha happened") for flavor.

I stayed home from work yesterday. Despite the 3-hour nap I took on Sunday, I did not have enough energy to deal with work.

advisory

Oh, it's summer all right. There is an excessive heat watch in effect for the next two days. I think we need to institute an excessive advisory watch.

Recently watched:
Mad Men, season 1 - All 13 episodes are available on demand, and during my several-day stint on the couch last week, I managed to squeeze them all in. Soap opera-y, which is probably why I like it. That and the mod 1960 decor.
John Adams - Loved it!
Also: Gone Baby Gone, Murder on the Orient Express, The Motorcycle Diaries, This Is England, Eagle Vs. Shark
And I recently caught some of the 1980s Anne of Green Gables miniseries on PBS and it flashed me back to grade school sleepovers at my friend Nadine's house. She had her own TV!

Nothing else new to report, unfortunately. As mentioned above, last week was a bit of a black hole. I had arranged to take 2 vacation days (for a total of 3 days off including 7/4) and par for my course, I felt crappy the whole time. So I did a grand total of nothing. And now I am feeling overwhelmed by the amount of stuff I need to do and it's looking like I am going to need another vacation day...
